Hi! I'm Gayle! My pronouns are she/her and they/them
I'm a neurodiverse naturalist and outdoor educator in Michigan, USA. I began teaching over 25 years ago as an teen outdoor trainer with Girl Scouts in New York. I was trained 80s-style in the middle of 360 acres of pure wilderness. As a maturing adult, I realized the disconnect between our society and nature. In a world of information and technology, the connection to our natural world has become thin and frail. Many even fear spending time in the wilderness. I realized I could change that.
As a homeschooling mom of 2 neuro-spicy wildlings, an opportunity fell in my lap (post-pandemic) to help form a non-profit organization that aimed to teach nature study and provide social engagement to local homeschool families. As the volunteer Executive Director for 3 years, I helped this inclusive 501c3 non-profit nature school grow and expand greatly. Because of my commitment to the nature school, I wrote nature-based curricula nonstop for two and half years.
Gayle Gone Feral was formed in 2022 following my American Red Cross Instructor Training and Certification. Currently, I am pursuing a certificate in Outdoor Education K-12, which focuses heavily on Indigenous Learning, Health & Wellness, and Climate Consideration, all topics I feel strongly about. Doing what I love: teaching folks about nature, how to thrive in nature, and how to feel confident in nature. Funny, because I never expected what I did all those years ago with Scouts to be my profession as an adult. But here we are, and I'm thankful for the growth of myself, my family, and my community.
