About Gayle
Who is Gayle, and why has she Gone Feral?
Hey, I'm Gayle! (she/her or they/them — either works!)
I'm a neurodiverse naturalist and outdoor educator from Michigan who's been passionately dragging people outside and into nature for 25+ years. It all started when I was a teenager training with Girl Scouts in the middle of 360 acres of pure wilderness in New York ► old-school, 80s-style. I was basically feral from the start.
Here's the thing: somewhere along the way, people got really disconnected from nature. Some folks are even scared of it! That felt like a problem I could actually fix.
Fast forward through homeschooling two wonderfully neuro-spicy kids, pandemic, co-founding and directing a nonprofit nature school, and writing nature curriculum nonstop for more than two and a half years. Gayle Gone Feral was officially born in 2022 to subsidize all the volunteer work I did on the side.
These days I'm pursuing a certificate in Outdoor Education (with a big focus on Indigenous Learning, Health & Wellness, and Climate Awareness) while doing what I love most: teaching people how to get outside, feel confident in nature, and actually enjoy it.
Funny how life comes full circle. I never expected Scouts to become my career. But here I am, and honestly, I'm pretty thrilled about it.
